What’s BREWing

Milwaukee has long been a hub for brewing…but who would have known that the city would be brewing more than beer.

BREW. Business. Research. Entrepreneurship.

In Wisconsin.

What’s BREWing at NEW Works?

Each year, water industry start-ups in the Milwaukee area compete for funding in the BREW (formerly Global Freshwater Seed Accelerator Program) competition. Last year, NEW Works competed for $50,000 in grants and a spot in the state-of-the-art Global Water Center in Milwaukee. With the help of the BREW program, NEW Works was able to assemble the much anticipated Flow Lab, which is where courses and training are held.

“This collaboration brings these companies with important water technology advances in the world to further development their innovation here in Wisconsin”

–Reed Hall, secretary and CEO Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation

During the competition, NEW Works was reviewed by The Water Council as well as an international panel of Water Industry professionals and investors. The expert panel assessed longterm interest in the start-ups as well as their ability to work with existing industries and businesses.

“Central to being a global water technology leader is to not only have world renowned businesses and universities but also having an innovative program that encourages and supports enterprising entrepreneurs such as the ones that are part of the Global Freshwater Seed [BREW] Accelerator”

–Dean Amhaus, President and CEO The Water Council
